Supporting local business start ups

In 2009, inspired by their own passion for electric bikes (e-bikes), four local businessmen set up a company called “OnBike” to promote the sale of e-bikes - a healthy and environmentally friendly means of travel.

OnBike operating from two retail outlets in Hartlebury and Presteigne in Wales has recently celebrated its first year of trading. From the start, it was supported by local solicitors Thursfields in setting up the company and leasing its premises in Kidderminster. Nick O’Hara, Managing Partner at Thursfields said: “OnBike’s product appeals to people of all ages – we were pleased to be able to support them as a start-up business and impressed by their successful growth even in the current climate.”

Mike Field, On-Bike Director commented: “Starting a new company is a daunting prospect, especially when trying to get a business off the ground in times of heavy recession. Although the formation of a limited company from scratch can be complex, thankfully the process was simplified due to the advice and support of the great team at Thursfields. This allowed the owners of OnBike to focus on what was important - its customers, and provide them with the level of attention and customer service they deserve.”

Electric bikes or “e-bikes” are powered by lighter and smaller batteries and can operate to a typical range of 25 - 40 miles on a single charge. The bikes have light and portable frames for use in cars and motor homes. E-bikes offer greater mobility to those “less able”, are much cheaper to run than a car (costing less than 2p to recharge a battery) and provide a real alternative to conventional more polluting forms of transport.
